The Red Sunset Merchants Association (RSMA) celebrated the “Holiday with the Merchants” holiday party at Splitsville on December 11th.   Nearly 65 guests attended the event, which included City Officials, merchants and friends.

There was a special tribute made in honor of John “Hans” Huseby.   RSMA President, René Aldonza, spoke a few words remembering Hans and his contribution to RSMA as former President and Board Member and to the South Miami Community.   We were honored that Laurie Huseby and son JP attended the event.  Laurie brought lyrics to a song titled, “Cowboy Logic,”  by Michael Martin Murphy.  This song was very dear to Hans.  Everyone joined Laurie and JP singing the song in remembrance to Hans.

We had a special treat by a children’s choir from the Area Stage Company that sung several Holiday Carols.  If was very festive and colorful, stated René Aldonza, RSMA President.

The event was concluded with over 35 raffle prizes donated by local merchants.   “The holiday party was a success and everyone had a great time!  This is a great community to work and to live in.  I am so happy and fortunate to be part of this community,” stated René Aldonza.

I wish everyone the very best for a healthy and prosperous 2015!

Khoury's Restaurant - A Landmark in South Miami

The Red Sunset Merchants Association (RSMA) held its monthly business luncheon, “Meet the Merchants” at Khoury’s Restaurant on July 24th. “RSMA chose Khoury’s Restaurant due to its longevity and commitment to the South Miami Community” stated René Aldonza, RSMA President.

Khoury’s Restaurant has been part of the South Miami Community for the past 21 years. It was highly-rated by Zagat, the Miami Herald, New Times and El Nuevo Herald as one of the best restaurants for Middle-Eastern cuisine. The restaurant is owned by Maroun Khoury. It is operated by Maroon’s sisters, Jenny and Mino. The Khoury Family is originally from Lebanon. They chose South Miami to open the restaurant in 1993 due to the great location and the potential for growth in the City of South Miami. Khoury’s Restaurant has participated in several events involving Chamber South, Business Expo, Chamber N-XT and RSMA.

Patrick Khoury is Maroun’s nephew, who is the restaurant’s owner. He worked at the restaurant several years ago, until he decided to pursue a career in banking. Patrick has been employed at the First National Bank of South Miami since 2006. He is a successful loan officer and Assistant Vice President. He is also involved with Chamber N-XT and served as its Chairman in 2013. “I was very happy with the outcome of the event. We had several merchants that attended the luncheon. The Khoury Family made us feel welcome, and the food and service was excellent” stated René Aldonza, RSMA President.

René Aldonza took the opportunity to announce two upcoming events that the RSMA is coordinating in the next few months. RSMA will be conducting on Internet Marketing Workshop. This workshop will help the merchants to gain more exposure for their business via the Internet. The event will be held at the First National Bank of South Miami on October 1st. RSMA is also putting together a fashion show titled, “The Fashions and Flavors of SOMI” scheduled for November 13th at the Area Stage Company & Theatre Conservatory. “We are looking for several retail stores and restaurants to participate in the fashion show.” You will be able to promote and showcase many items such clothing, jewelry and shoes. This will also be a great opportunity for restaurants to display their menu stated René Aldonza, RSMA President.
